We have a purpose built and designated surgical theatre which is equipped with high quality anaesthetic equipment, instrumentation and modern patient monitors and recovery agents.
We operate our surgical area just like a human hospital in which our team of veterinarians and veterinary nurses uphold the highest of patient safety and sterility standards.
Our veterinarians perform a wide range of surgical procedures such as de-sexing, lump and tumour removal, exploratory surgery, dental surgery, soft tissue procedures, wound repairs, ophthalmic procedures, orthopaedics and more. We perform surgery from Monday – Friday, with all patients being admitted in the morning of the scheduled procedure. Our veterinarians treat each patient individually and grade their presenting condition and anaesthetic health, ensuring the optimal safety and wellbeing of your pet.
Is a general anaesthetic safe for my pet?
General anaesthetics are very safe; however it is important to note that all procedures may involve risks and complications. We take all necessary precautions to ensure that your pet will undergo a safe anaesthetic and recovery. As part of our anaesthetic protocol all patients undergoing anaesthesia will be placed on intravenous fluids. These fluids are beneficial to your pet during their procedure by providing hydration, maintaining blood pressure and also providing venous access should an emergency occur.
Pre-anaesthetic blood testing
We also provide the option of a pre-anaesthetic blood test before any surgical procedure. Prior to every anaesthetic the veterinarian will perform a physical examination on your pet. A physical exam can give us a good indication of general health but blood testing is the only test that allows an internal view into your pet’s blood count and organ health. This test also identifies if your pet is in good health to be able to metabolise and safely recovery from an anaesthetic. Your pet’s health is our biggest priority, so we want you to be aware of the options we provide to indicate our high standard of clinical care and expertise.
We advise for all pets to be fasted from food from 9pm the night before a scheduled surgical procedure. A nurse can provide you of more specific instructions for your pet pre-surgery if necessary.
